Lawyer Says Trump Aide Told Her After 2020 Election: ‘The Boss Is Not Going to Leave’

In the aftermath of the 2020 election, former President Donald J. Trump planned to refuse to leave the White House “under any circumstances” despite losing at the polls, a longtime Trump aide told one of the lawyers who is cooperating with prosecutors in Atlanta as part of a plea agreement.

The lawyer, Jenna Ellis, described the aide’s statement during an interview with the district attorney’s office in Fulton County, Ga., parts of which were obtained and published on Monday by ABC News.

Such interviews, known as proffer statements, have been conducted with Ms. Ellis and three other defendants who reached plea agreements in the Georgia election interference case against Mr. Trump and more than a dozen of his allies.

ABC obtained excerpts from the interviews with Ms. Ellis and Sidney Powell, another lawyer indicted in the case.

The snippets from the videotaped interviews offer the first public glimpse of the conversations that Ms. Ellis and Ms. Powell have had with prosecutors since their guilty pleas last month. It is not clear what effect the information they are sharing with prosecutors may have at trial.

Ms. Ellis was one of 19 people, including Mr. Trump, who were indicted by a Fulton County grand jury in August on charges of conspiring to overturn the former president’s 2020 election loss. All of the defendants were charged under the state’s racketeering law; each was indicted on other felony counts as well.

As part of a deal that she struck with prosecutors on Oct. 24, Ms. Ellis, a former Trump campaign lawyer, pleaded to lesser charges, avoiding jail time and pledging to cooperate with the investigation. Scott Hall, a bail bondsman in the Atlanta area, and another Trump-aligned lawyer, Kenneth Chesebro, have also pleaded guilty.

Hunter Biden’s lawyer tells Trump posts are putting family in danger

A lawyer for Hunter Biden has sent a cease-and-desist letter to former President Trump’s legal team, saying that Trump’s rhetoric is putting Biden and his family in danger.

In the Thursday letter, Abbe Lowell argues to Trump’s attorneys that Trump’s speech on social media and in other forums could lead to the “injury” of Biden or his family.

He pointed to several instances of Trump’s speech that allegedly led to violence, including the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol and the attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

“This is not a false alarm,” Lowell said.

“We are just one such social media message away from another incident, and you should make clear to Mr. Trump — if you have not done so already — that Mr. Trump’s words have caused harm in the past and threaten to do so again if he does not stop,” he said.

Trump repeatedly criticized President Biden’s son during the 2020 presidential campaign and made a litany of accusations against him. He has more recently slammed the plea deal Biden is set to agree to, in which he will plead guilty to two minor tax crimes and admit to the facts of a gun charge through a pretrial diversion program.

“Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!” the former president wrote in a Truth Social post.

Biden taps GE HealthCare lawyer, ex-prosecutor for Chicago U.S. Attorney

June 28 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday said he intends to nominate April Perry, a former federal prosecutor and a senior counsel at GE HealthCare (GEHC.O), to serve as the next Chicago U.S. Attorney.

If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Perry will be the first woman to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

Morris (Sonny) Pasqual has been serving as acting U.S. Attorney in Chicago after John Lausch stepped down from the role on March 11. Lausch rejoined law firm Kirkland & Ellis in May.

Lausch was originally appointed by former President Donald Trump, a Republican, in 2017. He was kept in the role by the Democratic Biden administration at the behest of Illinois U.S. senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, even as Biden terminated the appointments of other Trump-era U.S. Attorneys.

Durbin and Duckworth praised Perry’s nomination on Wednesday.

“She was highly regarded by our screening committee and brings strong qualifications and a wealth of experience from her time in the U.S. Attorney’s office and in the private sector to the position,” the senators said in a joint statement.

Reached for comment, Perry said she is “honored to be nominated, and would be proud to serve if confirmed.”

A spokesperson for GE HealthCare called Perry “outstanding” in a statement.

Perry is the senior counsel of global investigations and fraud and abuse prevention at Chicago-headquartered GE HealthCare, which was spun off from General Electric at the beginning of the year. Prior to joining the company in 2022, she was general counsel at Ubiety Technologies for three years, the White House said.

Perry was chief deputy state’s attorney and chief ethics officer for Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx from 2017 to 2019. Before joining Foxx’s team, she worked in the Chicago U.S.

June 11 (Reuters) – Evan Corcoran, a lawyer hired by Donald Trump to fend off a federal investigation into his handling of sensitive documents, is now a central figure in the U.S. Justice Department’s criminal case against the former president.

The shift from lawyer to potential witness in the case is a sharp turn for Corcoran. The former Republican congressman’s son is described by former colleagues as soft-spoken and diligent, known for his steady presence in the courtroom and an affinity for fly fishing.

Corcoran, 58, was not charged in the indictment unsealed on Friday. It presents him as a key Trump confidant who was deceived by the former president as he allegedly sought to stymie Justice Department efforts to recover classified documents he kept at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after leaving the White House in January 2021.

The 37-count indictment said Trump suggested to Corcoran that he falsely tell the Justice Department that he did not have any sensitive documents to turn over after a May 2022 subpoena.

“Wouldn’t it be better if we just told them we don’t have anything here?” Trump asked, according to an account by “Trump Attorney 1” detailed in the indictment.

The indictment does not identify Corcoran by name, but a source familiar with the situation told Reuters that he is the lawyer listed as “Trump Attorney 1” in the document.

President Biden’s aides won’t establish a legal defense fund to pay lawyer bills

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s aides have ruled out the creation of a legal defense fund to help pay for any personal legal fees in response to investigations, such as the special counsel probe into his handling of classified documents, according to three people familiar with the matter .

One of the people said the president’s closest advisers had not even discussed with him the idea of ​​creating a legal defense fund because “there’s no reason to; there’s not going to be one.”

The president’s advisers decided against establishing such a fund because of concerns about questions that could be raised if he did, including that doing so might generate political blowback or give the appearance there’s potential wrongdoing he needs to defend, two of the people familiar with the matter said.

The amount Biden has accrued in personal legal bills for matters related to investigations, specifically the classified documents probe, is unclear, and the White House has declined to say how those bills are currently being paid.

A spokesperson for Biden’s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer, declined to comment on the specific nature of his compensation arrangements with the president, saying in a statement that “the engagement is directly between the president and his personal lawyer that in no way involves the use of taxpayer dollars.” Biden had another private lawyer, Patrick Moore, working on the classified documents investigation, though he no longer represented the president.

Biden’s 2020 campaign and the Democratic National Committee both have ongoing financial relationships with prominent law firms, including retainer agreements. Those arrangements could help cover some of the president’s legal bills, as well as for individuals who worked for him, according to people familiar with the matter.

FBI finds no class. docs at Biden beach house

WASHINGTON — The Federal Bureau of Investigation searched President Joe Biden’s vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Wednesday without finding any classified documents, the president’s personal attorney said. Agents did take some handwritten notes and other materials relating to Biden’s time as vice president for review.

The attorney, Bob Bauer, said FBI agents spent three and a half hours searching the house and that, “No documents with classified markings were found.”

He added, “Consistent with the process in Wilmington, the DOJ took for further review some materials and handwritten notes that appear to relate to his time as vice president.”

Wednesday’s search marked the third time in as many months that agents have scoured Biden’s property in a search of classified documents that he may have improperly held.

Five more classified documents found at Biden’s Wilmington home, lawyer says

Five more classified documents from President Biden’s time as vice president were found at his Wilmington, Del., residence on Thursday, the White House said Saturday.

Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president, said in a statement that one classified document was found in a room adjacent to Biden’s garage on Wednesday night. The lawyers who discovered that the document did not have security clearances and paused their search as a result, Sauber said.

Sauber, who has a security clearance, arrived Thursday night to facilitate the transfer of documents to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“While I was transferring it to the DOJ officials who accompanied me, five additional pages with classification markings were discovered among the material with it, for a total of six pages,” Sauber said. “The DOJ officials with me immediately took possession of them.”

The discovery of five more documents brings the total number of materials with classified markings found at Biden’s old office and Wilmington home to roughly two dozen. Biden arrived at his Wilmington residence on Friday night. He is set to spend the weekend there, as he does frequently.

Sauber referred further questions to the special counsel who was appointed Thursday to review the matter moving forward, and he reiterated that the White House would cooperate with the special counsel.

“The President’s lawyers have acted immediately and voluntarily to provide the Penn Biden documents to the Archives and the Wilmington documents to DOJ,” Sauber said in a statement. “We have now publicly released specific details about the documents identified, how they were identified, and where they were found.”
